More About Phoebe

Another local resident, a neighbor of the first, fortunately contacted Monroe SPCA who upon arriving on scene immediately took the dog into custody and began providing medical treatment. Nearly seven hours after being hit by a vehicle, Phoebe was now in shock, severely dehydrated, her body temperature was dangerously low, and she was noticeably injured and experiencing pain in her hindquarters. Monroe SPCA was able to stabilize Phoebe within a few hours and her condition was monitored through the night. Monday morning she was examined by a veterinarian. Phoebe’s vitals were more stable, but x-rays showed that she had received a complete fracture to her pelvis/hip region, a serious and painful injury. The veterinarian gave Phoebe’s prognosis as long-term good, but immediately requiring an FHO surgery to repair the fracture: specifically, the FHO surgery is needed to repair the soft tissue joint and joint cup (acetabulum) between the pelvis and right hip which is where the break occurred, most likely upon impact.

Phoebe will receive the FHO surgery she needs and be spayed on Tuesday, October 18, 2011.  After her surgery she will have a lengthy rehabilitation period before becoming available for adoption, but she is expected to make a full recovery.

Please help Monroe SPCA in their efforts to help Phoebe and other Monroe County animals like her who are in urgent need of medical treatment beyond regular basic care.

The cost of Phoebe’s FHO and Spay surgery is $1185.65.
